    MRI from 2D in vitro to 4D multi-modal in vivo

    The Preclinical MRI Center (PMC) at the Charité – Virchow Campus provides state-of-the-art MRI services for preclinical models. Set up as a Charité “Shared Facility”, the PMC covers all steps necessary to include MRI phenotyping in prelclinical studies. Located on the same floor as the Berlin Experimental Radionuclide Imaging Center (BERIC) of the Charité, multi-modal imaging studies can be performed combining high-resolution MRI with last-generation PET and SPECT imaging. The PMC hosts a last-generation dedicated small-animal MRI system (MRsolutions MRS3017), equipped with high-performance gradient systems allowing for advanced acquisition strategies. Operating at translational field strength (3 Tesla) in a „desktop MRI“ design, the system provides similar contrast characteristics as clinical MR systems allowing for direct comparisons between clinical and preclinical imaging findings. With a full range of coils and state-of-the-art gating and monitoring devices, all body regions of both mice and rats can be studied including a wide range of cardiac applications.
